How do I stop all the popups I'm getting on my computer?


While using a PC, you may encounter popups. These pop-ups appear when the device faces any situation. While using the internet, you can get pop-ups of online advertising. System pop-ups are necessary as they show the recent changes and other issues on the device. But not all pop-ups are necessary.

Sometimes the user may get unnecessary pop-ups. On the internet, you can also get fake pop-ups. The pop-ups show “Your device is under attack”. These pop-ups are fake and used to attack users.


The person clicks on the pop-up and malware gets installed on the system. Some of the popups can be for fake advertisements, when you click on the pop-up, it immediately redirects you to another webpage. If you are getting too many pop-ups on your Windows device then you can easily block them.


Block unnecessary pop-ups in Microsoft Edge


If you are using Edge browser, you can disable the pop-ups by following the given steps:

  • Open your Edge browser

  • Choose Setting and more options from the toolbar

  • Hit on Settings from the drop-down menu

  • Choose the Privacy and security option (padlock on the left side of the pane)

  • Go to Block pop-ups and toggle it to On

  • Now you won’t get any pop-ups on your Microsoft Edge browser.


Disable pop-ups on antivirus


Many security programs also send pop-ups. Your antivirus will show a pop-up whenever it detects malware or updates. But some antivirus sends lots of pop-ups. You can stop Malwarebytes popups and use the device without any disturbance. Go to the antivirus and open the Settings tab. Now click on Privacy and check for the Notifications tab.


Disable the Notification pop-ups and now you won’t receive the pop-ups. But you should only disable unnecessary pop-ups. Make sure you are receiving essential pop-ups on your system. If you have disabled the pop-up then you should manually check the antivirus status. Run a quick scan daily and a full system scan once a week. Also, check for the new update on your antivirus. If the new update appears, install it to keep your device protected from all new threats.

Sometimes you get pop-ups when you are using a free antivirus program. The antivirus will regularly send you to buy subscription pop-ups. You will receive the pop-ups until you purchase a subscription. Click on the pop-up and purchase a suitable antivirus plan for your device. Now the antivirus won’t show unnecessary pop-ups on the device.


Stop file explorer ads


You can also disable the ads for OneDrive as you browse the files on your Windows system.

  • Go to your PC and press Win+E to open File Explorer

  • Tap on the View button

  • Choose Options and click on Change Folder and Search Options

  • The folder options dialog box will appear

  • Hit on the View tab

  • Now scroll the list and click on the Advanced settings option

  • Tap on the Show sync provider notification checkbox

  • Choose Apply and hit the OK button

  • Close the File Explorer tab and now you won’t get any file explorer pop-ups.


Disable Push Notification Pop-Ups


Push notifications can be very annoying on Windows 10. If you don’t want to receive these notifications then disable them.

  • Go to the Start menu and hit on Settings

  • Choose System and click on Notifications & Actions from the left pane

  • Now toggle the Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and suggested a switch to Off

  • Exit the Settings tab and now you won’t face any push notifications.


Stop pop-ups on the Chrome browser


Chrome is one of the best and most highly used browsers. It shows pop-ups whenever any changes occur on the browser. If you don’t need those pop-ups then you can easily disable them.

  • Open your Google Chrome web browser

  • And tap on the menu icon from the upper-right side

  • Choose Settings from the list

  • Go to the Search settings field and type pop

  • Tap on Site Settings

  • You will see the Blocked option under Popups

  • Toggle the switch to Allowed

  • Now check the approved list

  • Scroll down to apollo and tap on three dots icon

  • Tap on Remove

  • Now repeat the steps and now the pop-up blocking feature on your Chrome gets enabled.


Uninstall recently installed apps


Some users reported that they are getting unnecessary pop-ups after installing a new app on the device. This problem appears when the user has installed a malicious app. Many third-party applications carry malware like adware. When the user installs the application, malware enters the device. You should only use reliable applications on the system. If you are getting the pop-ups after installing a new app then remove them. Go to the Apps folder and uninstall it. Restart the device and now you won’t receive unnecessary pop-ups.


Don’t open suspicious pages


You may receive unnecessary pop-ups whenever you open suspicious pages on the internet. Those pop-ups can be fake and can affect your device's security. Whenever you see lots of popups on the webpage, close it immediately. You should run an antivirus scan to ensure that your device is not affected by any malware. To prevent those pop-ups you can use a browser security tool. This tool immediately checks all the result pages. If the page is suspicious, the tool will alert you. If you click on the suspicious page mistakenly, the tool will page the page immediately. Using a browser security tool, you won’t receive fake pop-ups while browsing the internet.
